HOW TO ARRIVE AT SORAGNA: Soragna is an excellent base for excursion of historical, artistic and gastronomical interest. The birthplace of Giuseppe Verdi, Roncole, is only 6 km away. Here it is possible to visite the house in which the Maestro was born and the church where he played the spinet every sunday. Neither should one forget a trip to Busseto and S.Agata. In Chiaravalle della Colomba, one can admire a well preserved Cistercian Abbey of 1135, with a splendid cloister. Fidenza has a Cathedral decorated with rich sculptures. It has two 13th century towers and an unusual shaped chancel. A few kilometers further on is Fiorenzuola d'Arda, with its lovely frescoed Gothic Church, and Fontanellato with its famous sanctuary of the Madonna decorated by well known pictorial works and its 14th century Fortress surrounded by a moat. The entire zone is ideal for true piligimages of great interest: churches, cathedrals and castles. The more curios visitor can even reach Castell'Arquato, Grazzano Visconti, Velleia, Vigoleno, Bardi , Felino, Torrechiara and Canossa. In half an hour one can reach Parma, an important stage in any trip and rich with interesting features, from the splendid Cathedral Square to the Regio and the Farnese theatres, the suggestive suburbs of the old town and the lovely avenues along the river. The naturally one should not forget the elegant pastry shops with their hint of old Austria. |
